First of four dream sequences from last night. I was in a big brash bar/pub, in the style of Dingwalls in fact, with very few people there. The TV started showing a weird American show that felt familiar and, after a few mins, I realised I must be watching the pilot of the US version of Torchwood. I texted someone about it.
Final dream from last night involved going to visit a friend in Dublin who actually lives in Melbourne. We drove with my family over there and because we drove we took the telly and too much stuff but the plan was they’d drive back early and we’d fly back. Yes, that’s right, we took my big old 24” widescreen tube television.
The holiday bit is vague but suddenly we were looking to go and I realised we still had the TV, it hadn’t been driven back, so we were going to need to get an extra seat on the plane for it. I started trying to pack everything and stuff was coming to pieces so I was using my phone’s light to find little screws and cogs but the phone kept showing me all these pictures it was picking up from the internet there for some reason. Meanwhile Whitney Houston was irritating me massively by singing some god awful ballad as only she can…
The only other thing I remember is that we had a pie we’d mad in one of the china cat bowls - ew!
I had two dreams last night but the second was hard to make sense of. The wife and I were away somewhere for a week and it was for my work I think but we were both working. We were in the UK but there was a big shopping centre that seemed based more on Australian stuff, but that might be just my thoughts on not being able to understand all the shops there or how they were selling stuff.
Anyway, there was a section where I was in a conference watching a film or a programme being demonstrated and I was checking stuff on my new phone, which kept starting loads of different weird applications. I kept stopping them but after a while I worked out that it was opening them synchronised with what we were watching, which was pretty strange.
We kept going into the shopping centre to buy terrible things we didn’t need like crappy speakers to plug into a laptop and stuff like that. I do remember before waking up that there was a staircase in there, all in formica, that had become slippy from being melted. Peculiar…
I was in my uncle’s house, though of course it bore no relation to the house he actually lives in. The living room was large and full of furnishings and there were two TVs on next to each other, one large one small. I remember considering how expensive for the environment these would be to be running all the time and decided to turn them off.
Once I did this I realised there were a couple more TVs that needed to be switched off in another corner of the room. This happened several times, the other TVs seemingly sensing the lack of noise and turning up when the others were turned off. I remember thinking how insane it was that my uncle had so many TVs. When they were all turned off I counted them so I could relate the story to others later and there were eleven.
